Principles LeeAnn Piini, CJ Hanson and Selma Taker got the idea of the Muscotah Mercantile from their dreams of owning a shop and also fulfilling a gigantic need in our community. A year round Christmas store, seasonal Decor which changes with each season and has unusual gift items. (from new to gently used to handmade), and a convenience store. Each Season they have one room dedicated to a season or event; example January is Kansas’ birthday and the room is dedicated to that event. February will be about Valentines, etc.
“The best part of owning our own business is the suprise on peoples faces when they walk into the shop and say wow you have so many neat things to look at and we don’t have to drive to Horton when we run out of eggs or milk or whatever item I need.” states LeeAnn
NE Kansas Entereprise Facilitator, Teresa McAnerney says that it has been a pleasure working with such dedicated ladies! They had a vision and made it happen.”
“Our little town and the people who live here are absolutely amazing!” says LeeAnn ” They have donated things for us to sell, use as display pieces, helped with getting the shop ready to open, did yard work to get ready for our grand opening, the city is giving us free water and sewer for six months, offered free labor if we needed it, everyone has been so wonderful.” LeeAnn states with a smile, ” I could not imagine living anywhere else.”
