Iron Horse BBQ, 306 Commercial, Atchison opened its doors in mid-February. Owners Tony Kasl and Kathy Jensen offer customers a wide variety of smoked meats including beef and pork ribs, sausage, ham, and chicken. Meats may be accompanied by a variety of side dishes as well as two barbecue sauces unique to Iron Horse. The restaurant also features a full expresso bar. Catering is available as well.
The restaurant’s décor celebrates the area’s railroad history. The pair selected this theme as both of Kasl’s grandfathers worked in the rail industry.
The two owners complement one another with Tony doing the cooking and handling the kitchen staff and Kathy responsible for customer service and bookkeeping.
Enterprise Facilitation assisted the pair with their business plan. They credit the assistance with helping to secure loan funds for start-up.
Tony reports that the public’s reaction to the business has been “very positive” and that they “have repeat customers already”.
He and Kathy encourage you to stop in for some delicious barbecue. Their hours are 8 am to 9 pm Monday through Thursday, 8 am to 10 pm on Friday, and 10 am to 10 pm on Saturday. Call 913-367-5554 for more information.
